That would be sweet for competition. Think of the money you'd save. . . . one less tire to buy. You instantly cut your rubber costs by 25%!

If they produce it I hope they realize the super niche market they're going. As others have said, its more like a 2 seat, side-by-side motorcycle but not as fast.

I wonder how well it corners with only a single rear wheel back there holding the rear end down?

^^Wolfgang Bernhard behind the wheel, gives you an idea of the GX3's size and how low it is.

Why not?

If this thing really becomes available, ISTM there'd be a strong argument/good deal of support for including it in the SCCA autox classifications.

It probably does not understeer.

That's like a 355 or something on the rear, though, it looks like.

bren's right, though -- this is a really, really strange idea coming from VW.

Then again, so are those "vee-dub" un-pimp TV commercials.

It's my understanding (though a quick search of the rulebook did not reveal this) that three wheeled vehicles are prohibited in SCCA autocross.

But I have no proof, so I might be just making things up.

It wouldn't surprise me--but it also wouldn't surprise me to see those rules revised if a vehicle like this from a mass market manufacturer actually went on sale.

Speaking of autocross, I noted in the most recent Automobile that the Miata will offer a factory-supplied race option package, which will include modest engine tweaks, substantial lightening, and a more robust suspension. Anyone heard whether this will be road-legal?
