4matic wagon, 535xi wagon or crossover.

automatic is okay.

any demerits to the awd systems employed by merc or BMW versus the AWD found in an X3 or X5?

Nothing worth thinking about. I'd get the Merc.

I assume the 5er xi system must be the same as x3/x5 (minus the ground clearance)... BTW, I noticed that plenty of 08 e60's are in the low-30's now. I think a good price for a car that's decent to drive... No idea on 4matic, but xdrive is pretty good now (06 onward).

AMG? Please see other thread (snow is dumb).

Strange omission- http://www.audiusa.com/us/brand/en/m...os_videos.html

Which would be my choice, hands down, if I was looking for an AWD Euro wagon, mid-sized, with automatic.

I think the wagon is amg/4matic.

Edit: hmm. Maybe not awd.

I kind of agree with TD.

I'd look at both the Audi and the MB, but I wouldn't even consider the BMW.

Of the three, the only one I've driven was a 530 (this was prior to the twin turbo six being introduced). I didn't like it at all -- it felt huge (especially when looking in the rear view mirror), and it was claustrophobic when sitting in the driver's seat (the E60 interior is horrendous -- and when we tested it I still had my E39 530, which had a great interior design). Granted, the E60 Touring looks better than the sedan, but you'd still have to put up with the dame edna headlights...

Agreed.

I wouldn't consider the BMW either. Both the Audi and MB hold appeal to me, but there is a decently large price delta between the two.

Ah.

I had forgotten about the a6. I thought they only make the a4 touring.

But it's one to look at then.

Driving the e60 wagon with the n54 just in case the powertrain transcends the rest of the package. It's certainly one of the better engines here.

Thanks for the input thus far.
