a little strange that none of this pictures show the whole convertible top. Makes you wonder if there is something wrong with the softop?

I posted scans of an Excellence article on early/general Boxster engine issues. Search for it and read it. Certain years have explosion-prone engines.

Nevermind, I found it.

Whatever you do, make sure she doesn't buy a 2.5L (1997 to 1999) car.

At this point there really is no reason to NOT buy an S. They're just better cars in every way.

Wholesale is 8 to 9 so that's not a bad private party asking price. But, and a big BUT, why would you get a non-S and even then, why would you get anywhere close to 97-99 as others have pointed out? The 00-01's are going to be close in price anyway...

Wow, thanks guys. And thanks FC for finding that link. Much appreciated.

I personally would also get the S, for sure. When still in NY I TRIED to convince her to buy JV's car... (she even likes yellow cars!!!) but she wouldn't go for it.

She wants a price tag of under $15K so she can pay cash for the car and have plenty left for repairs, etc. I think that's a fine plan in general, but I'm worried she's just too focused on the price point and is going to pay more in the end by getting an old car where everything's about to go wrong.

She's also all over the map with what cars she's looking at. BMW's, boxsters, VW GTI, Mini. I'll go start a waffler thread with those constraints...
