Mom wants an Escalade
Most mothers drive an SUV and, if they could drive anything, it would be a nicer SUV.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Perhaps not surprisingly, a new survey reveals that most mothers drive SUVs. And if they could drive any vehicle at all? They'd want a nicer SUV.

In a survey conducted by NADAguides.com, an automotive information site loosely affiliated with the National Automobile Dealers Association, mothers and expectant mothers were asked what type of vehicle they currently drove, what vehicle they would most like to drive and what factors were most important to them in choosing a vehicle.
When asked what type of vehicle they currently drive, 54 percent said they drove an SUV. Twenty-two percent said they drove a four-door sedan. Only six percent of mothers said they drove a minivan.

When asked what type of vehicle they would like to have if they could switch today, 52 percent said their current vehicle was just right. Seventeen percent said they would rather drive a minivan and 12 percent said they'd switch to a hybrid vehicle.

But when asked what vehicle they would "dream" of driving if actual financial and family issues were not a factor, SUVs were still the top picks. Most mothers said they really wanted a Cadillac Escalade SUV. The second most popular choice was a Land Rover Range Rover SUV followed by a Porsche Carrera sports car.

Respondents were also asked to name the three most important aspects of a vehicle. Among mothers and expectant mothers, 67 percent put safety as a top concern. Fifty-four percent said fuel economy was among the most important factors, the preference for SUVs notwithstanding. That was followed by roominess, which was a top-three concern for half of mothers.

The survey was conducted in late April and early May. A total of 520 mothers and expectant mothers were surveyed.

Sounds like a messed-up survey... SUV vs minivan are bodystyles and general classes of vehicles. A hybrid is a type of powertrain!!!.

But I guess you could conclude that hybrid SUVs will be big sellers...

this corroborates other "survey" (caveat emptor) data where men are more likely to drive minivans and women seem to prefer SUVs when they polled families to assess vehicle buying habits.

i cannot remember the psychobabble verbatim, but it had something to do with security/insecurity and for a lot of those polled, you can guess who preferred the projection of "power".
