Dude, I just configured one online and it came to an MSRP of $22,939.

For a new car that has appeal, that's cheap.
If you're really pinching pennies, you can get a non-S version with very few options for under $19,000. And the residuals are good enough to make leasing attractive. It's a good "disaster recovery plan" for me.

Just a little friendly warning - if you take a long test drive in the MCS, or even the MC, you are going to have a difficult time getting the feeling out of your head. Your dreams might start centering around small cars that can do donuts in your garage. You will start comparing hp to weight and wondering if you really need lots of torque.

If you find a good road to take the test drive in, you might find yourself laughing out loud when going around corners. I did. ops: Salesman thought I was nuts.

Last night, I waited outside for about 30 minutes for a table, I saw at least 10 people who walked around our MCS at least twice to check out the car. A lot of them tried to look through the dark tint to see how it looks like inside... pretty funny... definitely a cool car to have...

With about $5k of mods, you can kick some very serious ass at the track, a track junkie friend of mine came up with this upgrade path after his first track weekend in his MCS:
  • $1K for Quaife LSD (absolutely critical. He was having serious power-delivery issues at several points on the track when the front inside tire got unweighted)
  • $1K for Upgraded springs, shocks, sway bars
  • $1K for Big Brake kit
  • $1K for Pulley, intake, exhaust, and software upgrade
  • $1K left over for installation of the non-diy items

I love how basically everything is an individual option. But the best part is that it's available in Cosmos Black.

Still, it remains a disaster recovery car for me. And unlike TD, I'm not looking to encourage any such disaster.

TD, just watch The Italian Job a couple of times this weekend and by next weekend we'll be congratulating you on your new car.

I want a Cooper S. They're addictive. That's really all I have to say... I don't need any more justification!

hmm, I hear there's a Sterling Gray one available at a nice price

aranoid:
I got an idea as to teh price and I just can't jsutify going even that high right now.

Although my wife was suggesting maybe picking up a new MCS.
We're going MCS test-driving tomorrow. Probably Sterling, but maybe Tate. Want to come?
I just called the wife and, sure, we'd be up to hit Sterling as long as there's no snow hampering the experience. Oh, and not too early as she's hoping to catch up on a little sleep from the sleep hole we're all in from being sick earlier this week.

Have you dealt with anyone in sales over there before who might go easy on the salesman schtick?
Check your PM.

After all of the pro-MCS commentary in this thread, I'm a bit afraid of REALLY liking the thing. I'm just not sure if I can pull the plug on the M3.
