Read that as M\AMG\Boxster S. =P
If I can get past the manual need, ugh I just don’t want to, there are definetly newer AMG products that fit into what I want to put out. Current short list includes: - 2013 E92 M3 - 6 spd. These are actually in the price range I want now and this may actually happen this summer finally. - 2016 M2 - 6 spd. Waiting for the M2 comp to come out and hopefully adjust the stupid used prices on the first year of these things. They are not limited additions like the 1M and prices are just dumb at the moment. - 2013 Boxster S - 6 spd. Moved on from the 987 finally. Just like the newer interior way better.

The pool for replacing the 1er is really narrow and with other driving pleasure considerations comes down to a 911 vert/981gts or AMV8C. Then layer on top of that any kind of fiscal responsibility and my 1er needs to last me a long time. I think the move away from hydraulic steering, manual transmissions and 6cyl+ engines is what is really ballooning the used car market for vehicles that have those features.

Your left foot is still bored as hell and you have to tap for each gear skip.

As an example, over lunch I was coming up to a redlight at about 40mph in 4th gear. I put in the clutch to coast down to about 20mph and move the shift lever from 4 to 2 but left the clutch in while I continued to brake. The light changed and I was able to smoothly let the clutch out in 2nd and pull away. My passenger wasn't subjected to lengthy engine braking or multiple blip downshifts. I know this is a silly example, but just the first one that came to mind from an hour ago that would have annoyed me (or at least changed my driving habits) if I didn't have a real manual.

Though, I don't know that I would ever coast for any distance with the clutch in. There's no real reason to do that except that you are tired of constantly clutching in and out. Right? |

I haven't posted about my 2013 Boxster S? I bought one with 8k miles on it two years ago, coming up on 17k miles now.
Mine is loaded with options: full leather, PASM, PTV, 18-way heated/cooled, seats, SC, PSE, 20" wheels etc. etc. It's a fantastic car, simply put. I was in the market for a 2014 Cayman S when the GT4 roped me in Spring/Summer 2015. That didn't work for my use (see Matt and his R) and I jumped out Xmas 2015. Spring 2016, I shopped for 991's and 981's. While a 'vert is a new thing for me (first time in twenty cars or so), the platform is outstanding. |
