Dinan chip for 3.0LTT

That is pretty awesome considering you get a warranty. I am really, really hoping the next gen 5er wagon looks good in and out and has a roomy cargo area.

I'd be upgrading the diff before adding more power.

I wonder if the driveline can handle the extra torque? I also wonder if you really need that much extra power for everyday driving.

+1. As with the E46 M3, the last thing to upgrade on this car is the engine. It's got plenty of power, but it really needs a new diff.

Plus another one on the diff. Not much of that power is really usable unless you're going in a perfectly straight line. The lack of a diff pretty much ruined the whole car for me.

Well, an LSD goes without saying. I'm thinking of a loaded up 535xi. That would be a 4500+lb vehicle and a bit more torque would be great.

I think you guys are missing the point. For relatively little money, you can increase the power of an already great car by about 27%. That's huge. The diff is already wrong, it will just continue to be a little more wrong.

If you had to choose one or the other, I suppose you choose the diff first, but still . . . the Dinan mod (and their competition that is also available) is pretty cool. Dinan is supposedly working on a bunch of other stuff too - bigger turbos, intercoolers, stronger engine components . . . and Turner already has the LSD option available. It's expensive, but others will follow I am sure, hopefully driving the price down.

I haven't looked into this as a way to remain interested in the car down the road or anything . . .

I agree with both rwg and FC; it makes more sense on a 535xi, and it is kind of cool that you can turn the wick up that easily. I'm just saying that the wick is already up as high as I rationally need it, so spending money on making this car go faster in a straight line seems like a waste of money.

Dunno. The biggest thing limiting the fun-factor of the car is the diff. At least to me. More power would probably just make it worse.

i'm closing my eyes right now trying to imagine the CTS-V without a limited slip differential.

hmm.

it's not pretty.

using that logic, i really couldn't understand adding more power to a hobbled drivetrain.

i'd just enjoy the car as is and get a real car for focused driving.
