wow, this has taken an interesting turn...

Don't like the suit.

The X1 may be too small. When my wife sees it, it may be too ugly, but for now it is an option for Josh to consider because it is RWD biased, has a peppy engine and good steering. Those are all personally subjective items that she'll be able to make the call on when she looks at it. I'm more interested in ownership/maintenance issue, board research type feedback here.

I will need/strongly prefer AWD - ski trips, kid at school in Canton, NY, the lake etc.

My wife would prefer no stick for her DD, hence whatever we get will be automatic

Golf wagon isn't quick enough or 'nice enough' for what she wants. We routinely drive 600 miles in a weekend and she likes to be able to get in and out of traffic with adequate merging power... we'd really prefer the turbo 6 over anything else.

I would rule out the x1 unless you mean badge wise for 'nice enough'. Advantage of the plastic fantastic x1 interior is that it should hold up better.

Given all of that, I'd try the X3. (Which I haven't driven in in years.) Used Macan? E350 wagon?

My wife loves the X1, we're all but certain to buy one soon. She likes the "not SUV SUV"-ness of it. And she actually prefers the feel of a front wheel drive biased drivetrain. I know, I know, I was unaware of that before I married her.

She gets full credit for having a preference, though. Even if it's wrong

My wife wouldn't care which wheels are driven, or whether it had "feel" one way or the other.

I'm not unequivically oposed to it. Similar to the E350, V60 and the like it is more fear of the unknown. Audi dealers are not very accessible in my area. I have no idea about their CPO program, no clue about reliability, maintenance requirements, things like that.

BMW is running a 0.9% APR on CPO cars at the moment, so it is basically free money.

I was avoiding working for a couple of hours earlier. It brings out the best in me.
