What's missing from JST's list is that a) they're all in the "project" category and b) they're all links to cars listed on other sites (most or all craigslist) rather than BaT auctions like the $4500 Merkur serving as the point of departure.

I think that means you're both right.

My mom had a slightly used one for about a year in the mid-80s. She and my dad loved it. Then we took a family road trip to upstate NY, Toronto, and then broke down before we got to Montreal and my dad and I walked a few miles to the next town, found a phone and somehow arranged a tow to Montreal.

And then it took three days for the problem to be diagnosed,

And then it took 12 days for the parts to arrive at the shop.

And then it took three more days for the repairs to be completed.

All while the four of us lived in a smallish dual queen bed hotel room until my mom and I flew home at the two week mark.

Three months later, a parking valet drove it into a wall, totaling it. Happiest day of my dad's automotive life to that point. The insurance payment a couple weeks later was for about $4k more than my dad paid for it almost a year earlier and that became his happiest automotive day.

69 and 70 are my favorite Mustang years. It could use a shaker though.

Nice! A teacher in my high school had a dark red one. Teacher was a real dick though. Someone (not me!) pulled a great prank on him. He had told students he was attending a play on Broadway, and someone called in a "tip" to the Port Authority that someone was smuggling drugs into NYC in a Red Boss mustang, even gave the PA the plate number!

Really the only takeaway here is that a "good" Merkur is still a complete piece of yard art.

Looks good, though it will need some maintenance.

Been waiting for one of these to pop up on BAT, always like the first gen with the removable top. Wanted one when I was in high school.

Yep, wanted one of those too, but ended up with a wrangler instead.
