+1

We used to do a lot of business with one of the local wheel shops, it was a lot cheaper to spend $100-$200 on a repair vs. $400+ on a new wheel. Time off the road was a downside but they could turn them around quickly for us and we'd usually have to wait a day or two to order new wheels also.

Let's just say there's a lot of headroom under the price of a new Tesla wheel in which to operate. They are *crazy* expensive.

Yeah, I've used them a few times now. Have my recently damaged wheel on the way out there for an evaluation and possible repair. I think Terry pointed me in their direction originally, here on this board.

They do really really good work. Not cheap though.

Ok, Tesla service said the tire was bubbled and the rim bent. They sent me a pic of the tire, which was clearly bubbled, but not of the rim.

Can you find the bend? Because I can't.

Could just be a little out of round. A much cheaper repair. I've been getting my rims checked and "re-rounded" when I get new tires. My indy guy recommended it. I thought at first he was trying to rip me off, but then he just put the car up on a lift, held a pencil in place like the minute hand on a clock and spun the wheel, and you could see like 1/4" difference between apogee and perigee. I was amazed I didn't feel more of that when driving, but I guess despite the shape is was still relatively well balanced, or the tire wore unevenly to compensate or something.

could you take the rim to a tire shop and ask them to mount it to the balancing machine to see if it turns out of round?

Is this the place people have been talking about?

https://www.taswheels.com/

They're open Sat and estimate $100-150 to retrue it. Seems like it's worth a shot, even if I don't relish the idea of driving to Laurel.
