About 10 years ago when I was seriously thinking about a 964 I drove a couple of them and realized just how big a difference Variocam/VANOS has made in torque at low RPM. Both were pretty quick but you needed to wind them out to get anything done; the then-current Boxster S (which I now own, but didn't then) felt like a rocketship in comparison on test drives.

I loved my M3, but I also worried about the VANOS failure and subframe issues all the time. I was worried I would lose the money I spent on it--and more (needing a new engine, etc.) I should have just addressed the problems head-on and lived with a certain measure on uncertainty. Who knows, the 2 may end up having some catastrophic issue down the road (it is a relatively new engine--the B58). The difference is, I don't know about it yet and can still enjoy the car! |

Which is why I drive my 1M like I do. I'll probably get a reasonable price for it when the time comes, but not sky high like many of them do. But I get to actually enjoy it every day.
