Get an oil filter wrench that grips the filter. You will never have to use the "drive a screw driver" method again.

I had a strap wrench, just couldn't get it to budge. I finally did, without resorting to a screw driver.

I don't think I have ever had a strap wrench work. That's why I suggested the one I linked too. Never had a problem with that one. It deforms the filter slightly if it needs to get get a better grip.

It's amazing how little torque an oil filter with an organic gasket requires to make a good seal.

The spin-on filter for my motorcycle uses an o-ring seat: 2 full turns past fully seated. Now THAT sucks.
