Cayman battery terminal bolt foobar'd

EDIT: Apparently I'm not the only one. I'll go to home depot and buy a bolt. One guy used a bolt with an allen wrench head.

----------

OK, so my very first attempt to do anything on the Cayman has left it undriveable. . I was just trying to add a battery tender adapter.

Removing the nut (which was completely loose to start) resulted in a lot of resistance. Putting it back on there was even more. But in the spirit of I fucking want this down now goddamit I just kept turning.

Then I heard a pop and the bolt now spins freely inside the terminal clamp.

Nice work!

Sorry.

EDIT: Just read some of that thread. That you can't even buy the damn bolt at a Porsche parts counter is kind of infuriating.

Right?

I ordered an allen head bolt and nut from home depot. I'm traveling again this week for work so it'll be waiting for me when I return.

You can buy battery terminal bolts (complete with the square head) for a couple of bucks at any auto parts store. Sounds like they either peened the nut or staked the threads when they installed it, and if the bolt is made of low grade metal it'll gall the threads when you remove it.
