E46 Battery
Need two new ones.
Any conventional wisdom on a good replacement? Compelling reasons for going OEM/non-OEM? Or are they all pretty much the same?

Do you have a Batteries Plus store around you? They stock batteries from the OE manufacturer of the BMW batteries which are essentially identical to the OEM batteries but at about half the price.
Don't make me look up who makes the battery. |

How did you manage to kill the batteries in both cars at the same time?

They're both about the same age... the last month's cold spell probably did it.
Looks like Duralast 49DL is the fest's leading candidate. Thanks for the Batteries Plus suggestion... never knew such a place existed. There's one about 20 minutes away from me in Whippany. You all rock.

If they make an Optima battery for the Bimmer, that's what I would buy.

Yes - Douglas 'used' to be the BMWNA battery supplier. I understand they are not currently however (don't quote me though... I can't recall specifically where I read that...)
As far as batteries go... I installed a Duralast battery in my E38 when I bought the car as it still had the original battery (as far as I could tell anyway). So far, so good. I didn't have a BatteriesPlus near me so.. www.E38.org had a bunch of good info on batteries so that is what I did. Sure beats ~$270 from the dealer... I think mine was ~$70 or so.

not to mention the oem replacement batteries seem to last about 2 years no matter how good the original ones were. How long did yours last Plaz? Five years? Six?
