bmw YTD sales: only the MCS was up for the year......
....the rest were DOWN.
even the "new" launches or even the "almost new" launches. i understand that it must be put into the context of an overall down year for most marques, but with BMW bragging about growth, i thought it important to point out that their core product (read: C A R S) completely sagged in the US. (data can be downloaded or accessed at autonews.com under "data section")

Yup. Completely on the back of the X3 and 6-series (which have no prior year sales to comare to - a default 100% sales growth). Car sales for all continuing models are down versus last year.
3-series- DOWN 4.82% 5-series- DOWN 2.94% (especially shocking since last years sales were for a lame duck model) 7-series- DOWN 21.09% Z3/Z4- DOWN 32.82% I dissected that BS press release when it came out. The verbage is clearly intended to distract the reader from the reality of the numbers. I can't see how anyone could honestly claim these numbers are good. |

the cynic that i am, i fully accounted for the x3, the new 6 and the mini as the upward trenders.

And when you sum up sales for ALL car models (including the 6-series), overall BMW automotive sales are down 5.45% YTD.
I did a cut and past into Excel of the table at the bottom of the BMW press release I linked and added a column to calculate change %. I'd post it if I could figure out how. |
