I want a Jeep Gladiator.

It makes no sense.

But it’s a vehicle I don’t want to want.

But the JL Wrangler is so good, the Gladiator appeals to me even more.

Huh, it's like the last vehicle I'd want. Horses for courses... But I expect they'll be very successful.

I've been staring at it trying to figure out why I would want one.

And why I wanted one a year ago before they were ready.

I'm coming up empty.

What do you use the Wrangler for that it is good at?

There's part of me that's interested in a JL, but I don't actually have any pickup needs that would be met by the small bed on the back. Looks like a good way to get your cargo wet and stolen.

If you want to go offroad it's not the best vehicle.

If you want a truck to use the bed it's not the best vehicle

If you want comfortable road driving it's not the best vehicle

If you want all three??? I am still not convinced it's the right vehicle.

I'm watching some TFL Truck youtube videos on the gladiator and laughing at the comments

coming soon to a Costco parking lot near you...

After the liftkit and add ons that people do to the jeep this thing will get an amazing 9 MPG
...
All this hype and the best they can do is a 3.6 V6? Lmao
...
No way in hell that thing would pull 7600 pounds safely.
...
Hey Jeep!! You need a smaller cab option with a bigger bed!!!!
...
Never buy a first run American car. You are the beta tester.
...
No 5.7 hemi or a two door model? No thanks
...
137" wheelbase holy hell. Not surprised but it's just soaking in. This thing will need minimum 40" tires to make any sense on the trails lol
...
That thing is as long as a full size but it's not considered full size?
...
It looks like a hummer raped a jeep and wanted to transition into a Ford afterwards
...
Little longer and it will be confused for a limousine
...
Chill out. This isnt even a real truck. Only women and teens ride this shit
...
Will the death wobble of the unreliable jeep pull you off the road and cause a crash and burn?
...
only after the heater core leaks all over the interior and the wiring loom splits in two.
OK I'm done.

Put me in the camp of the Gladiator being near the bottom of my "I want one of these" list. What's the definition of a "Jack of all trades?" The Wrangler is pretty much the opposite of that. Not really good at anything you'd ever ask it to do. Clunky on-road, not quiet, not efficient, not spacious, not luxurious and lacking in utility as a truck.

Awesome.

edit: Then I ran across the Edmunds "True cost to own" list (this one from 2012) on another forum. It's like a listing of the cars I'd least like to own and drive.

True Cost to Own
2012 Nissan Leaf $19,732
2013 Fiat 500e $20,807
2014 Chevy Spark EV $21,086
2012 Scion iQ $21,713
2012 Mazda 2 $22,013
2012 Mitsubishi Mirage $22,185
2012 Honda Insight $22,368
2012 Honda Civic Hybrid $22,433
2012 Hyundai Accent hatchback $22,729
2012 Toyota Yaris 5 spd $23,298
2012 Chevy Volt $23,707
2012 Honda CRZ Base 5 spd $23,790
2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in $24,066
2012 Honda Fit $24,475
2012 Toyota Corolla $24,549
2014 Smart FourTwo Electric $24,611
2012 Toyota Prius $25,373
2013 Ford Fusion Energi $27,712
