Just curious, quick is that operation?
The car can get on the trailer with the splitter on. I had it off for the test drive because I was still trimming the air dam and I wanted it off the car when I was washing it. I didn't put it back on until I started working on the decals.

If I have to remove it, it's two clips in the front and two 6mm bolts in the rear. Very quick, but the front wheels need to be up on ramps or jackstands to get it off.

I'm happy but cautiously optimistic. I haven't really given this thing its first stress test yet, so I don't know what's going to break first. Could be something minor like tire interference or one of my mounts cracking a weld, could be something major like the engine having a problem during tuning. I just won't know until I start to hammer on it.

I put a proper fuel pump in it last night. And mounted the wing.

A Deatschwerks 9-307-1009 DW300 fuel pump fits perfectly in the stock RX-8 Series 2 fuel pump housing. And flows enough fuel to feed the car with E85 for more than the power I expect to make, even if I run silly boost levels.

I spent a couple hours on Sunday measuring up the trunk lid to mount the wing uprights. Then drilled it today. It still needs to be set up, and I haven't attached the upper element supports, but I did all the major work mounting it up. Thanks to Rick at Ciro racing for a great deal on the wing.

I bought a set of LS2 coils off eBay a couple weeks ago. I'm a little worried about the stock ignition system, as the Miata guys report having a lot of misfires with the stock coils. I picked up a set of Brisk silver plugs that should help, versus the wide-gap iridiums that were in this motor, but I won't have time to do the LS setup before going to see Pete on Saturday morning. I may bring the coils down there and if we see crazy breakup at high RPM I can always go to Autozone and get a cheap set of plug wires for a Tahoe and wire up the coils real quick.

The only other thing I did was spend a couple hours Sunday doing a nut and bolt on the car. Driveshaft, axles, suspension, subframes, diff mounts, trans mounts, etc. I don't want anything coming apart on the dyno.

How much dowforce does a splitter and wing like that generate at autocross speeds and for that matter, what are max auto-x speeds?

I see the wing is mounted on the far edge of the trunk lid, presumably to help with force transfer. Do you have to do any internal bracing for it?

Re: speeds, this is from the rulebook:
Quote:
Although Solo® events are non-speed events under the Solo® Rules of the SCCA®, speed alone is not the operative factor in determining what is and is not a proper Solo® event. Hazard is the operative word; hazards must not exceed those encountered in legal highway travel.
Generally, maximum speeds in the mid-50s to mid-60s (mph) are contemplated for Street and Street Touring® category vehicles,...

Courses must be tight enough so that cars
run the entire course in their lower gears. Speeds on straight stretches should not normally exceed the mid-60s (mph) for the fastest Street and Street Touring® category cars. The fastest portions of the course shall be those most remote from spectators and property. Turns should not normally allow speeds in excess of 45 mph in unprepared cars. It must be remembered that sites themselves vary and not all sites will safely support the speeds shown in these guidelines (see Section 1.3). Conformity to these speed guidelines does not preclude reasonable and prudent consideration of the conditions encountered.
This is a mostly stock (R comp tires & fancy shock controllers) C7 GS at the event we ran in Charlotte this past weekend.

John's car should have similar course times to the Vette on most courses and tend to be a wee bit quicker (if everything works out), but I kind of expect the Vette to have higher peak speeds on most courses.

For reference, where this showed the Vette at 76mph going up the hill, my turbomaro rode the limiter at 60mph for about two seconds. If I'd had 19" wheels on the car instead of 18", I'd probably have been on the limiter at about 62mph for nearly a second and a half. My car is in the "Street" category mentioned in the rules. The Vette is at a higher/quicker level.

It was not the fastest course I've ever seen, but it spent a lot more time at the higher end of the range than nearly any I can remember.

The wing will generate a couple hundred pounds of down force at typical autocross max speeds. It's very draggy but I'll have enough power that it won't matter.

Interesting, that's a lot more effective than I imagined.
