Well, it's not like the electric or hydraulic winches are significantly safer. There is still plenty of power to do much damage.

The other reason I can see the PTO winches disappearing is the cost. I have to think it's more expensive to figure out some kind of mechanical PTO system than to simply hook up some wires from an electric winch to the battery.

Still, it's pretty cool to see one.

I've been seeing one of these regularly on my homeward bound commute. It just confirms my opinion that the only good looking MINI is the regular hatchback. I've never really warmed up to any of the MINI variants and I think the coupe (bellow) is one of their ugliest ones yet.
