I just got a spam email from Hertz that they are now renting Model S' for $149/day:

Electrifying Performance for $149 per Day
We are thrilled to announce the addition of the Tesla Model S to Hertz Dream Cars®.

For a limited time, you can get behind the wheel of Tesla’s most anticipated all-electric vehicle—for just $149 per day. That is a daily savings of over $100. This offer is subject to availability at participating airport locations in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, San Diego and San Francisco through March 31, 2017.

The Tesla Model S is one of the hottest, high-performance electric vehicles on the road today. Do not miss out on this exhilarating experience.

Try quoting any other car in the Hertz Dream Cars category. They are not cheap...

Why would you get that when the GT3 is cheaper?

I will tell you, we had one of those donated to a charity auction I helped organize, and it was a HUGE hit.* The detail on it is pretty nuts--from the frunk that opens to the charger that looks like the real deal, to the fact that the charger actually plugs into the taillight like a real Tesla.

Lights work, it has a jack for your phone...it's something else.

I don't think there's any way to justify spending $500+ on something like that, but it sure as hell is a conversation piece. It went for $730 at the charity event.

*I got to spec it out, so of course I picked red with grey wheels and the upgraded battery.
