Yes, I knew of this. When we paid off the new Fusion a month ago, Ford was very quick to cash the check and slow to process the connected paperwork.

I assumed GM would also be quick to take my money, and also be slow with the paperwork. I (we) were getting worried when GM didn't process the check, and then a little pissed to learn they had processed it but their computers didn't know this.

Oh, and Clyde THANKS VERY MUCH FOR THE TIP ABOUT PENFED. They have been fantastic to work with so far! They now hold the note on the Fusion and we are in the process of re-doing our HELOC with them

Step 1 accomplished in the fastest, easiest MVA (DMV) trip ever. Appointment time was 9:30, but I showed up at 9:15. Health screening and appointment confirmation took about 60 seconds. 15 more seconds until I had my numbered ticket. Not enough time to sit down before they called my number. About 7 minutes of the woman checking that my prefilled form was correctly filled out, asking me, "They let you have this? Really? Wow. That's cool," entering stuff in the computer, charging me $10, and sending me on my way.

They open at 8:30. Today was the first time I saw windows with employees waiting for customers. I counted four before I made it to my window, but I think there were a couple more. There were only a handful of people in the waiting area that usually pretty packed. This location has about 27 windows. Of all the times I've been there, I don't think I've ever seen more than about 20 in service at one time. Only some windows can do certain tasks (not all have cameras for license photos, etc).

I have no idea how many things aren't being done because people aren't going in (appointment only and the soonest slot was over two weeks for me), but my experience today was a pretty amazing display of efficiency.

I renewed my license at the MD MVA about a year ago and it was as you describe. I was literally in and out of the place in < 15 minutes. I couldn't believe it.

The DC DMV, notwithstanding my recent positive comments, is an absolute disaster right now. You're basically fucked if you need anything.

The first available appointment is currently in November.

So, if you're a DC resident, you can't doing any in person DL changes. You can't tag a car. Etc.

I sold two motorcycles and bought two in July. The NJ MVC recently opened but after a three-four month backlog lines are supposed to be legendary. I cannot do out-of-state purchase titling online, so I'm riding on the old plates (I do have insurance to the new VINs of course). To be honest, I haven't tried going yet, but given that fist fights were breaking out and people were camping only two weeks ago, my hopes are not high. Usual procedure is 15 to 30 minutes, 45 if unlucky. I don't think I can afford more than 1 hr. Many docs have been postponed, I see plenty of expired temp plates around me.

Yes, apparently DC is telling people to carry the appointment confirmation with them. Of course, they can't offer any assurances that it will be accepted outside of the DC / MD / VA areas.

I don't think NJ does appointments. I hate this state more every day.

Appointment only, but no availability for months isn’t great either.
