paint protector

I'll be mounting a yakima rack and basket to the golf so that we can take it on our Holiday Journey. I'd like to put down a paint protector (vinyl, 3M?) under the rack mounts.

any pro-tips? I'd like to leave the paint protector on full time so that I can mount and unmount the rack whenever I want. I'm afraid that anything clear might discolor. Suggestions on what to use?

Check this out below. My brother used this on his trip down to Florida with bikes on his Audi.

My car has a yellowed "clear" bra, I still think it's better than chips everywhere.

If you are just doing a couple of simple strips, you could always redo them every couple of years should the yellowing become noticeable.

We did a clear bra on our Yukon.

215,000 miles on it.
Looks like hell...
The bra,,, not the paint.

When we get to selling that truck (soon) - I'll remove it all. But not until then

haha - Maybe.

But - The protection has done its job well.

I'll let you know how it does (for real) when I do have the material removed.

I ordered some 3M clearbra type stuff that should be here Friday morning. Just in time to mount the rack and basket and head off to the in-laws.

I'm loving the Golf so far.
