Bullitt locations (today) for car chase, shot for shot.

This is cool: every shot's location in the movie and what it looks like today, from the vantage point of the shots in the classic film.

That was a great link, my brother in law has an exact replica of that car if you are a fan of that particular car it is like going back in time.
It was a ground up restoration completed about 8 months ago.

That was cool 'n all but I was digging The Goonies version more.

Might have something to do with my personal version of nostalgia but almost every summer as a kid my mom, grandma, and I would go down to our family beach cabin in Rockaway, OR for several days. We would invariably pass through Astoria, stopping for frozen custard at a place in town. We'd also always stop in Canon Beach once or twice.

Most of the scenes in The Goonies are very famiiiliar to me. The shot where the black Cherokee drives down to the beach in in Canon Bach and the scene was filmed in front of what is now The Wayfarer restaurant. I've been out to Ecola St. Park where they filmed the restaurant scenes in the film.

And then two summers ago coming back from the coast my son and I stumbled across the jail in Astoria.

It's a the Oregon / Astoria film history museum now or something like that. Some years ago someone donated a black Cherokee to park out front and put those bullet hole stickers on the tailgate. Nice touch.

We hadn't watched The Goonies in over a year but a week or so ago my son wanted to watch it again. It's amusing to see what he picked up on at different stages of development. This time, he was laughing his ass off over the scene where the boys damage the statue on the coffee table and break the penis off. And if that wasn't funny enough, he was rolling even more as they put it back on upside down.

All previous viewing this went right over his head. But now?

Oh, and he's picked up on the work "shit" now, too, thanks to it's frequent used in the film.

I haven't seen Goonies since it was in the theater... Considering we'll be spending a few days in Canon Beach this summer, maybe its time to watch it again...

Goonies is one of my favorites. It did a good job capturing the essence of childhood for me in terms of the back and for among my friends and peers at the time. Including all the swearing. Which is surprising for a "kids" movie but I'm glad they didn't scrub that out of the dialog. It's just a fun, well crafted adventure movie.

ZBB, if you're going to be in Canon Beach this summer you'll be stumbling across some of the filming locations in town. There is haystack rock, and the ramp where the ORV drives down onto the beach (the build in the background of that shot is the Wayfarer restaurant now).

Ecola state park is on the north edge of town but you'd need to drive there. That's where they had the old restaurant set (which was temporary for the movie). Most of the park is perched on the cliff above the ocean.

Haystack rock is in the distance on the center and you can just make out the town of Canon Beach at the edge of the sand on the left of the picture.
