automated manual transmission with manual or automatic mode
What, exactly, is an automated manual transmission with manual or automatic mode? Is this an SMG like device?
I just checked out the Smart website after my dad sent me an e-mail saying he had reserved one to be delivered next year. This is the transmission they come with. Seems like an expensive choice if it really is an manual without a clutch going into a car that costs less than $12k. |

Even the 1st gen Smart had the automated manual transmission...
Since the engine has relatively little go-power, its probably more like the semi-automatic motorcycle transmissions, but with an electronic brain to make it shift automatically. We used to ride ATCs in high school that had a toe toggle to up or downshift without a separate clutch handle.
