A good example of why I like doing things myself, whenever I can. If I'm performing the work, then I don't have to be concerned about a mechanic that probably doesn't give two shits about me or my car. And I can only blame myself when something goes wrong.

Applies to many things in life; not just car repairs.

Every time I read a lug nut story, I'm reminded of this:

(Which has to be up there with "Jet Fockin' Black" as an all-time fail).

I ended up reading that article... If you scratch below the surface, you see that it's the worst of Jalopnik/bloggers, with the click-bait mislead..

It's a long, legal story but in my layman's view.. The referenced law is for fraud, i.e. for a shop saying sth and intentionally not doing it. Not tightening lugs is severely stupid but still negligence so the specific law cited (the one that allows for attorney fees and punitive damages) is not applicable. That doesn't mean damages cannot be sued for, just for the amount though (which sucks because the attorney fee sucks up most or all of that).

Equ is correct. This is one of the few times where it pays to read the comments.

The appellate court got it right. This is a negligence case, not a fraud case.
