Flat tire
Had a blowout today in the Tesla; hit a pothole at speed and the tire let go.
I was going to just swap on the space saver and be on my way, but decided to try Tesla’s roadside assistance instead—they’ll bring you a loaner wheel/tire and take yours back to the store for repair. It’s a great idea. In practice, though, it turned what would have been a 20 min tire change into a 2.5 hour ordeal, as the driver had to go out to Tyson’s to pick up the wheel, and then was sent to the wrong quadrant of DC by the dispatcher. It’s nice having a “real” wheel on the car while I source a replacement tire, but I think in the future I’ll just do it myself. |

Were you sitting on a shoulder? Parking lot? Other?
Changing a driver side flat on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway in great midday weather just above the Dulles Access Road where there was barely enough shoulder to stop was one of the singular most frightening experiences of my life a couple years ago. I mean, there was enough room, but enough room to do it safely. There was a cushion between the furthest reach of any part of my body and the travel lane, but not enough cushion. I don't know why I actually stopped or elected to change the tire where I did instead of driving on until there was a safer spot. Do you need to go pick up the new/repaired tire and wheel or do they come out and swap for you?

Was actually downtown, right in front of my office. About the safest place you can be. Yeah, the idea of changing a tire on the side of the highway is terrifying. Loaner wheel is just like my others except it has a giant Tesla sticker on it. Oh and is sparkly. Mine are dull grey. |

WTF? Was there an incident that caused this, or did it just start losing air? It seems like a lot of air too!

I have a set of OEM 19's (the original non-turbine style) if you are interested. Already in boxes, so would be easy to ship out ;-)

Hm. How much for the OEM 19s?
I hit a pothole, I guess. I think I remember the incident though I thought it was the front wheel. You can see the crack in the wheel, right below the air bubbles. |
