It's about even in a straight line against the same year Boxster S.

The gearbox is balkier.

The engine is tuned a bit better, you want to rev it more. You feel less shove/torque at lower rpms compared to the Boxster S. So even as their acceleration numbers are identical, in driving feel this is more like a faster base Boxster that needs to be revved.

Other than these, there is nothing wrong with these cars. The base needed more careful optioning than the S due to some performance options being standard on the S.
that actual car or just a 991.1 non-s? sounds fun, I like sports cars that wants to rev out. Guards red is a classic color too.

Might not go to high being a non S.

Nice. I really like 991s. Love the looks, nicer interior and just the overall feel better than the 997. Even the hated 7 speed felt smoother to me than the 997. Gearboxes I’ve tried.

Not that actual car. Yes, interesting.... The 2.7 on the 981 non-S want to rev out as this 3.4 on the 991.1, more so than the 3.4 on my 981S, which revs out just fine, but there is a little crimping at higher revs. On the other hand, the lighter weight of the 981 combined with about the same torque/displacement of the 3.4, gives the midengined car more of a shove (nothing compared to electric or even turbo cars of course).

I'm not sure I hated the 7-speed, just a couple of test drives. Many gates.

As a 997.2 6-speed owner, I'd say the whole car, fundamentally the suspension and the front suspension at that is smoother on the 991. It just handles better. The 997 is more "911", it did have the better hydro steering feel but the 991 takes it in every other category IMHO.

The reason I went into detail on the slight differences of the 3.4 engines and how they feel is because JST drove my car. This red one will likely go over 50k.

RHD is a deal killer. It would just be too much of an annoyance to deal with.

Also, it's red. Blah.

Thanks for that! I don't really have much desire to own a 991, especially a non-S, especially at the prices they currently command. I remain convinced that the 997S is the best compromise between traditional Porsche feel and every day usability. The new cars (particularly the turbos) just don't do much for me.

There's a 911T for sale at the local Porsche dealer that I've thought about looking at (it's orange!), but I keep coming back to the above.

I don't know. The 911 market is so hot right now that even the '06 on BaT is likely to fetch 45+. That's a lot of scratch for a 15 year old car, and I have the same internal conversation with myself about whether I'd enjoy or use it any more than I do my similar vintage Boxster (for which I might be able to get half that, maybe).

Part of me is resigned to just never owning a 911, but another part of me is pissy about that since it's been a bucket list car for me for 35 years at least.

I hadn't looked at the price or the auction when I commented. I do know that they were around $70k THREE YEARS AGO. The S's were $80k. BaT may bring a premium, but wow...

The 2009+ porsches (and especially the 911) hold value. I implored FC back in the day that the 911 depreciation curve was going to be pretty flat. I think I was discussing 997.2's then.

JST: A 997.2 base actually feels torquier with the 3.6L instead of 3.4 and shorter tires. But then the chassis is funky and retro to drive, which is I guess what you're looking for.

I know - that is one reason I don't mind putting the miles on my 997.1

For me - that car will always be 'worth something' supporting putting $$ into keeping it going.

Plus - it is just a hoot to drive.

Got outbid on the black 997.1. Wasn’t willing to go more than 44 with the BaT fee. Oh well.
