Anyone have E36 prices handy? I'll have to dig around for them.

I seem to recall that the E36 wasn't much cheaper, and we're going back many years. For that price, the equipment level was lacking and the build quality was much worse.

I purchased my former '93 E36 325i when it was 2 years old. Saved myself quite a bit of cash too. D:

The '87 325is I had (1st owner was a friend). MSRP was $28k for a fully loaded 3-Series. The good ol' days.

Adjust that $28,000 from 1987 to 2005 dollars and see where you end up.

If the E30 was in production today I certainly would not pay 2005 money for it. Nevertheless, I will not be buying an E90 for what BMW wants either.

Well, my point is that if you wouldn't pay 2005 money for it today (because it would be overpriced), than maybe it was also overpriced in 1987 in 1987 dollars. Therefore, it probably isn't a great idea to speak about how much of a value it was. In fact, it really wasn't a value at all. If anything, the E46 was the most reasonably priced 3-series (comparing inflation-adjusted, dollar for dollar as-equipped prices) in recent time, with the E90 coming next. The E30 came out in the days when the Germans could charge anything they wanted for their cars, and the E36 wasn't much better.

Love or hate the E46 and E90, BMW can no longer charge whatever they want to, and they are in fact better values than the models that came before them.

I'll agree with that. I was just being difficult.

Hmm...probably not.

I've come to my senses in the last year that an automobile is the worst place to put your money. Sure it is common knowledge, but I guess I am beginning to show my age. Maybe I am actually growing up.

She got it. 2006 750Li, and it sounds like it has just about every option.
