It’s been great. Daughter has been driving fully licensed for a year now, son turns 16 next month and is on schedule to get his license the week of his birthday. Now I just have to buy a car for him

Going well. Still in learners permit stage, working on learning to use the clutch and so on. She’s got it 90 percent down; hills are still a challenge but that will come with practice.

My son has been driving with one of us parents since last August. He's done a classroom driving program, behind-the-wheel hours, and now the family driving. He's decent, although a bit overconfident, IMO. And I am a total stressball as a passenger, but that's also kind of my nature.
We have a law here that requires a graduated process to full licensure. Since he did not get his permit until August (about four month's after his 15th birthday), he cannot get his full license until this August. And then there are rules for how many passengers can ride with him, etc. We are also wrestling with how to handle the access-to-a-car equation, as it's complicated across two households. Plus, I have just learned the turbo engine in the Mazda has a fatal flaw. So I am also wrestling with what to do about that. It may involve selling both of my cars and buying something for myself--and then whatever we can find that's safe and decent for my son... My ex is also likely to go down to one car and finally sell the Porsche. I would be tempted to just order an X3 today, except for the decontenting that's still going on. Currently, the important missing option is no HK. And, in some models, you can't get active driving assistant, which I really liked in the Mazda. Lots of moving parts... |
