Holy crap. The 04 R32’s are now bringing the same or more money then same mileage E39 M5’s.

Crazy.

Interested to see how it ends up. It's an awesome car for what it is, but the niche is narrow and BAT is an interesting place to try to move it.
Just over 30K hammer price. Seems like a pretty good deal given the mods.

Yes, the IMS is what everyone complains about, specifically the bearing that the intermediate shaft runs in. The 2006-2008s all had an upgraded bearing with a very low to non-existent failure rate. I haven't seen a 2006 with a failure, though I understand it's possible. I have an '06 now so it's not like the risk (if it exists) would be any different.

The DFI engine would definitely be preferable, but worth the extra cheddar? Nicely specc'd 997S cars do not grow on trees.

This won't go for under 30. It might go for under 40.

EDIT: I'm not in love with the wood trim, or with the sand beige interior generally. Light-colored Porsche interiors of this vintage (grey, beige) wear like crap and show flaws really easily. I noticed that back in the day when I was looking at Boxsters. The black and blue interiors are the ones to get. This, though, is nice against the black, and least the outside isn't fucking silver.

For JV, now that he’s got his race car built:

92 RX-7 R (Japanese version of R1). Steering wheel on the wrong side, though.

So I drove this car a few times...

It's about even in a straight line against the same year Boxster S.

The gearbox is balkier.

The engine is tuned a bit better, you want to rev it more. You feel less shove/torque at lower rpms compared to the Boxster S. So even as their acceleration numbers are identical, in driving feel this is more like a faster base Boxster that needs to be revved.

Other than these, there is nothing wrong with these cars. The base needed more careful optioning than the S due to some performance options being standard on the S.
