Corvette tech

I don’t post about the Corvette too much but I have to say this car is awesome … I drive it as much as possible but it just had an issue where the check engine light came on and I have to tell you this is crazy, the tech in this car kicks ass on my other cars.

I was backing the car out of my garage to go to the office when I saw the check engine light come on so I immediately hit the Onstar button on the roof and asked the person who answered to tell me what is going on and they gave me the 2 codes that went off and explained to me what they were in detail. I then received an email with the codes as well as a basic diagnostic test of the car.

I called the dealer and gave them the codes and when I dropped the car off they already knew the issue from the onstar report as well, I am not comfortable leaving my car at a dealer but they were great, I had been there for the one year maintenance previously but here is where the technology really kicked in … they reset the car and the Corvette specialist took my car for a 7 mile drive to see if the codes came back … I don’t like anyone driving my cars but the coolest part is the Corvette records everything, I literally watched the tech driving my car and heard everything since it records sound and the guy babied the car almost too much.

It was so cool to watch as the person who checked the car in drove it to the spot it was parked in and then watched it in the service department getting worked on … pretty crazy because I was concerned the tech would turn the recorder off.

That is cool. I’m a little leery of the privacy implications of all that data, but real time telemetry monitoring really does improve diagnostics. That was one thing that Tesla did really well.

I think the Tesla’s probably have a better system because it records even when you’re not in the car and records people messing around with your car.

How did the Tesla store the video’s, I have to use an SD card which holds 1000 minutes … it really should be cloud based.

Tesla had a USB port that you could plug whatever media into. I think I used a 256 GB memory stick. Not sure if the current gen cars do something different.
