His brother, who now works for Audi, was a designer for Dodge and worked on the first Viper platform.
Sounds like you have some cool cousins!

Yes, but they are the kids if my father's sister. Neither my father or his sister are alive today, and their relationship was never a strong one, so we cousins were never very close.

I did see the one who owned the Porsche about 8 years ago. (he only kept it for about 3 years) He took us out for a day on his boat near Port Townsend WA shortly after we moved to Monroe WA

isn’t this FC’s dream car?

I think this represented quality and luxury unobtanium for a lot of us back in the day. I had a friend whose mom had one of those. And I thought, this is a rich people’s car. So different from the vinyl econoboxes my family had. And, yet, we were still privileged by comparison to most.

It's funny--I drove one of these in HS, and while it always did strike me as a rich person's car, it also cemented a (largely accurate) view in my head of Mercedes as being German Buicks.

The same HS friend also had an E30. That was much more of a revelation, even with a slushbox.

EDIT: Actually, I had another friend with a '66 Riviera and the Buick was more interesting to drive than the Mercedes.
