The reviews for E450 and 540 make them seem pretty boring. I don't want to go full Lexus here.

Speaking of Lexus …an IS500 might be worth test driving atleast. I’m kind of intrigued by them

Glad you're taking my advice

If you are looking at the M550 I would highly recommend the DHP Suspension.

The 540 is not boring and far from a Lexus ... I had a 2019 and it was an awesome car, the seats also make a difference, I had the Multi contour in those too and owners without those seats complained of the regular sport seats being uncomfortable.

I will add one more thing, the 6 cylinder was an awesome engine with excellent power.

Majorly biased, but I have always loved the 5 series and the E-class.

Right mix of niceties with usually more than adequate power (don’t get a four banger).

And

That the E class and 5 series are “more car” is unquestioned. That has always been the case. We’ll see how they feel.

Interesting how the 48V motor works. No serpentine belt.

I'm sure 90% of the 540 specs are pretty boring, but you can find ones with enthusiast options.

I think you'd have to look harder to find a good 540 with the right options - multicontour / massage seats / M Sport Suspension and dynamic handling, but they definitely exist:

Yep.

It’s pretty neat.

Sounds horrible out of warranty though.

indeed. I believe these 48v systems do allow for removal of other components (serpentine belt, dedicated starter motor, etc) so they may not necessarily be the cause for even more woes out of warranty (but its guaranteed that something expensive will break for sure!)
