I don't know what size of the national fleet they make up, but the tanks in a lot of econoboxes from the past 15 years aren't much more than 10 gallons.
Sure. Panic buying is self reinforcing. Once it starts, everyone does it.

i doubt that the assholes with trash bags or tanks made up a meaningful fraction of the demand.
I had something like 1/4 of a tank on Saturday and filled up when I heard about the pipeline shutdown. Panic buying? Maybe, but it's not like I pulled my purchase forward much if at all. Had it not been for the shutdown I might have waited out of laziness or forgetfulness, I guess.

I "hoarded" by topping off the Mazda on Saturday as well. The 2 was already pretty full. I usually fill up at the 1/2 or 1/4 tank level.

This afternoon I mowed the lawn with some precious regular gas. Non-ethanol at that.

We both would have likely waited days before fueling up, but pushed it forward because everyone else was buying. It's lower case panic, but it's still panic buying.

There's rational and irrational panic buying. I'd class what we did as a rational.

Of course, I haven't actually driven since I scored that tank of fuel.

I'll use any word/term anyone wants to use, but the lines wouldn't have existed without some kind of abnormal behavior.

When I checked out the GasBuddyGuy Twitter feed, it looked like had had cited some demand stats over the past few days that showed demand was significantly higher than the previous week.

My take is that if no one knew the pipeline had shut down and continued behaving as normal, there wouldn't have been a shortage or lines. If it's not hoarding (which, upon further reflection, isolated, anecdotal container filling is just that: isolated and anecdotal). I didn't need to put gas in the Camaro Wednesday night or yesterday, but it was easily available at the moment yesterday. I would have waited until this evening when I would have otherwise needed it. There must be an appropriate word or term for that?

Gas Buddy app has been updated to show if a station is out of gas, diesel, or electricity

when you say huh? about electricity, it will come in handy when storms take out power and you are looking for fuel for your generator

I filled up the Mazdaspeed last night at the local station. No issues. 2.95 for premium. I guess we live out of the way enough nobody came up to make a run on fuel.

We’re coming up on a year as an all-electric household. 2 EVs, battery for the lawn mower and other tools. I haven’t pumped gas into a car in about 15 months (a rental). We’re getting solar and battery backup installed at the house (I need to start a thread - buy the design Is permitted and we are just waiting for HOA approval).
