After I buy a last of the run G87 M2 in 28 or so with a manual that will be my last ICE car. After I keep it for maybe 7y I will be to old to care anymore. Then I will go electric.
I averaged about 12-13 MPG in the M5 for 12y and never really thought about it. True definition of a (ICE) carmudgeon. =)

Btw, I’m paying $3.99 gallon for 91, which is always higher than the national average.

That's crazy.
The Mobil close to my house has not seen lines and the price has not budged a penny since over a week ago. That said, there were reports in the news about pricing increases and long lines here and there in MA. Probably from panic-buying form the TP & paper towel folks. |

Wednesday night, I made a quick loop to see if any of the nearby stations had gas (Camaro was under 1/8 tank) and they were all out. Around 2:00pm Thursday, one of the stations went to green on GasBuddy, so I headed over. All eight pumps were full, but no line to speak of. By 4:00pm, GasBuddy showed it as orange again.
Still sounds like things should be fine by the end of the weekend/early next week. Also still sounds like the single biggest factor in the shortage was the hoarding.

i doubt that the assholes with trash bags or tanks made up a meaningful fraction of the demand.

IIRC, the average fuel level was something like a quarter tank in the US. So people don't have much margin to deal with a supply shock either.

It really is an issue that cars use so much fuel and reserves can't practically be stored at home. Storing 10 gallons in canisters at home only gets you part of one tank. That's just a few days for the average household.

I don't know what size of the national fleet they make up, but the tanks in a lot of econoboxes from the past 15 years aren't much more than 10 gallons.
