Glad to know I'm not the only one thinking if I could pull off a Boxster and still be able to pick up my 3 year old daughter from day care...

After a certain model year, airbag deactivation is easier. I forget what year, though. 2007?

My thought is to go cheap enough that I can justify it as a third car - thus still having two cars that could carry all four of us.

According to some threads on rennlist, the switch costs about $600, and is key operated (250 parts/350 labor). 2006+ models have weight sensors that will disable the airbag, which theoretically means that a switch isn't necessary, but I'd much rather have the switch.

Damn it, TD. Don't show me stuff like this. It really calls into question my ideas for an MX-5 when a Boxster S is within a couple thousand $$$.
