2012 Lightning Lap
New C/D test at VIR; someone posted the results in this forum, though I haven't seen my hard copy yet.
http://www.kcsr.org/showthread.php?p=1638097 Some interesting tidbits--the 1M gets around in 3:06.6, with a vMax of 133.9. Decent, but the TTRS does it in 3:04.8, with a top speed of 139 (!). Compare that, too, to the Cayman R, 3:03.9 at 133.5. A couple of years back, they got 3:05.8 from a Cayman S (famously exactly the same as what they got for the Carrera S), so the Cayman R's performance improvements are obviously subtle. Also interesting--the Golf R is down the list at 3:14, with a max speed on track of 125.4. Not terribly impressive compared to the cars above, but look at it compared to the 335is; it's only 2/10s of a second slower than the BMW around the course, despite giving up 6 mph in vMax. |

It seems to me that the track might have been a bit more slick as compared to the last test. I find it pretty hard to believe that going from PS2s to Sport Cups on the ZR1 was only worth a second over almost three minutes.
I was surprised to see how slow the 1M was. |

So, after knocking off the M3, the Mustang's latest victim is the Cayman R. Sweet.

I actually saw a Cayman R on the road today.
When does this Golf R actually come out, are they building them yet? |

I think the first Golf Rs are hitting the dealers this month, from what I've read elsewhere.

Never in my life had I ever considered owning a Mustang. I really found them all pretty repulsive.
The Boss changes that. I have to admit I want one. |

I'm kind of in the same camp - I had one pass me this summer and it literally shook the ground as it went past ... thing was muscular looking and aggressive. It lit up some kind of juvenile desire ... just a "gotta have it" emotional response. Like a Les Paul and a Marshall; you know you'll go deaf, but you want to plug it in and hit that open power chord - hard!!!

To the first golf R driver among us, make sure to post a review when you get yours.
