If you think it’s bad to have a little difficulty opening the door, or having to back into the garage, how much worse would it be to have a big metal post to run into in the front of your garage?

Got it .. if I understanding it correctly you are saying the possibility of driving the car into one of the posts when parking the car ... correct ?

Do your garage doors slide open left and right? or roll up into the posts?

Also walking into. But yes. stick a 2x4 in the middle of the garage door and think about how annoying that feels.

Quick update on this thread ... my contractor came a few days ago and is trying to figure out how to do this, while he could vault the ceiling he needs to do it so the garage railings can be mounted but my roof at that part of the garage has two different angles, he is not sure if the lower part of the roof which is the left corner when pulling into the garage (the left garage when facing the doors) has enough height and can mount the railings parallel to clear the upper car ... here is a quick pic and hopefully I described this correctly.
Anyway I have decided to go through with it if it is possible I am just waiting for an answer. Also decided on a 4 post lift, while I completely agree with Nick the 1 post is better space wise I do not want to have to always back my cars up into the garage, I drive them too much to want to do this all the time. Btw this is the side of my house, that entrance door is a side door ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by Alan; 02-28-2020 at 11:19 PM. |

Seeing that you have two doors, I withdraw my advocacy for a one post lift. It’s not THAT much better since you already have a column there.
