0W-16. Really?

The 2019 Rav4 Hybrid calls for 0W-16 oil. Learn something new every day. Why do I think this is not going to be as easy to find as regular ranges?

In other news, in two months and a day, 5,700 miles.

Yeah - now that you mention it, I saw that oil in the store the other day... I did a double take when I read the weight.

Then quickly forgot about it as my E9 (and previous 2002) use 15W-50 Mob 1 and most of the cars I have now... 5W-40 Mob 1 (Delvac 1 - TDT).

Odd weight. Hope the engines last with that light stuff....

16? That's oddly specific. And I had no idea it even existed.

The Mobil 1 formulation is branded as "Advanced Fuel Economy" and says this:

The Rav4 Hybrid's owner's manual specs a 10k mile oil change interval for normal use. It says that 0w-20 can be substituted, but if you do, the following change must happen within 5k miles and must use 0w-16.

Searching auto parts stores for who has 0w-16 in stock is a frustrating exercise.

I remember a similar experience when Honda first started using 5W-20 a good number of years ago. The first oil change at that weight, I had to buy quarts from the dealership parts department. And even they didn't have much on hand. It didn't take long after that for stores to start carrying the new weight in the same quantities as 5W-30, though.

Wouldn't the store you prefer order it for you?

Way too many stores in my area, but there is an Advanced store where the folks are nice, and I get a bonus cash back on my card from Advanced . . . anytime they don't have what I want in stock, they get it in a day or two for me.

Also, in other news, C&D says the Hybrid is the RAV4 to have.

You mean talk to people? What are you, like, from 1980?

I should do a review post, but I haven't gotten to the 1 year with the Camaro post yet.

Short version is that it doesn't suck.

I am learning more and more to just start and end at Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Toyota-Genuin...gateway&sr=8-3

I keep trying to go to Home Depot and box stores to buy things only to drive myself crazy with their lack of inventory. I go home and jump on Amazon and have what i need at most 2 days later.

I just did a search on Advance Auto Parts website and they stock 0w16 at the Ellicott City location (I didn't look elsewhere).

I've started ordering stuff at Advance online because they almost always have a 20% off coupon which is valid online only. I then just pick everything up on my way home from work. Super convenient. No hunting around the store, just walk in, pick up your order and walk out.

In general their pricing undercuts Amazon's significantly.
