In the 911 you can carry 3 people in a total emergency, which you can’t do in a Boxster—but the times where I’ve needed to carry three people, I’ve just taken the other car.

Even for touring, the Boxster has enough space for two people and their luggage.

If 911 prices hadn’t gone so nuts over the past few years, I might well have bought one as a bucket list car. I came pretty close when I bought the M3. But I always came back to this: a sports car that you can put the top down on is a better sports car than one you can’t. And the Boxster is a car that’s very livable day to day.
Yup.

If a had a better commute that wasn't so long and 97% highway, I'd consider a 911 as a daily.

That's not the case, so I rather get a nice toy. Still hoping one day I get an allocation.

I think the allocations are out there to be had (now). It might cost some money though.

One thing that I thought about was, once they stop making gasoline powered vehicles…….they’re gonna cost a lot more than whatever ADM a person is paying (given it is a special car)

From my perspective, the GT4 is more expensive and demonstrably worse for every situation other than doing track days. Given that I can't see ever taking the car to the track, having it be useful and enjoyable on roads that range from okay to not great is a high priority.

It's kind of like the "why not a 911?" argument? To Josh's point, we don't have kids, so the 911's seats are useless, and the Cayman/Boxster is a sweeter-handling car, lighter, and quite a bit cheaper*

*debateable, certainly dependent on resale

I think you're probably safer from a resale perspective with a GTS Cayman or Boxster vs a regular 911. The potential pool of buyers is probably smaller but those who want one will really want one.

These are the Boxster/Cayman models which will hold their values for forever.

The history of Porsche is always the last of the Gen has the most engineering refinements and the biggest engine. And it’s always a small fortune to try to buy one later on.

I would also posit that Porsche may migrate the Cayman/Boxster to EV, but keep at least a few big ticket ICE (or whatever hybrid can pass muster) models of 911. So, that would keep the ICE Cayman/Boxsters desirable on the used market.

The rear seats are useless regardless if you have kids or not, personally I prefer the 911 … meanwhile I have a Cayman in the garage and really enjoy it

I've had two 6ft teens in the back of the 911 multiple times with the top down. They seemed happy to be back there. Being a 'vert makes ingress/egress much easier (you can remain standing while you climb in) and lets you sit up straight as long as you don't mind bugs in your teeth.
