Getting towed is not at the top my favorite things. Happens to the best of us though. Good luck....

I'd think you'd have the engine flying around the engine bay if things were that bad.

Holy crap, that sucks. Out of self-interest, I hope it doesn't affect the alltracks (now at 40k).
C drove the her 2013 tdi to 72k and the 15 gti to 48k with nothing that major... |

Indeed. My Atom had an LSJ engine (designed for front wheel drive) mounted in back (as rear wheel drive) and the shifter was something from a front wheel drive Honda, also installed backwards.
There were rather fiddly adjustments at the transaxle end, where there were 2 arms connected to the 2 cables. Mine never gave me any problems*, but other people had to continually adjust theirs to hit gears cleanly. * Well, other than the fact it was backwards. 5th gear was an odd over-and-diagonal-with-a-zigzag down because the gate in the shifter identified that position as reverse and it was a compromise between what the shifter gate would do and what the transaxle would consider a valid shift. This is even more "fun" because it is tuned to 285HP at the crank, has the rev limiter coded at 7500 and is an interference engine. |

I am pushing back and want them to focus on the transmission. That still might not be covered by warranty since it could be user error. This car has 45k miles and mostly freeway driven |

The extended 7/70k warranty that they offered on my GTI was what motived to buy it. I have always written off VW's because of their reliability. Now I have two with issues, a bad engine and transmission

At any rate, good luck! And maybe try an independent if VW won't cover? |
