Got to give BMW credit
So yesterday I am driving to work and out of no where this message pops up on my screen (see attachment) ... 2021 M550 owners were not getting the 0-60 times of 3.6 as advertised and it looks like the magazines weren't either and BMW is now doing something about it.
My M550 I find is insanely fast except off the line it is not what it should be, apparently in first gear you are only getting partial turbo boost. While I did comment on this thread I just wrote it off being I am not out there drag racing people and I rarely ever floor my car off the line, once you hit after 10mph the car is a rocket ship ... It will be interesting to see what this software update will do ...the cool part is they are going to send it over the air ala Tesla so I don't need to bring it in for service. https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1799884 |

Interesting. Do you know if it's limited to the 5 series or would it affect other 50i vehicles as well?

Is your car a 2020 or 2021 ? I saw the boost was low at take off in first gear by putting on the sport gauges and literally seeing the boost at half of what it was in the other gears. |

Wow- very cool! Kudos to BMW on this. I think they've quietly been doing a great job on their vehicle software in general for years now

I just saw the C&D article yesterday. Sounds like it’s 2021 models but not sure if it’s all of them or just certain production window. Also not sure if it’s just M550 or would impact X models too.

Yea, the regular software updates are pretty good, definitely better than early days of iDrive when updates were a trip to a dealer, getting plugged in and waiting a few hours for a download.

Just curious Zach and Fil ... when you put your car into sport plus have you ever revved the engine to hear how it sounds .
I thought my car had all fake noise but if you are outside behind the car and rev it out it sounds like a monster, I didn’t realize it until a week or two ago, i did it for a friend of mine and he said it reminded him of a Mustang ... it even has gurgles.... |
