The point I've seen made in response to studies like that is that the key distinction between an EV and an ICE car is that the EV gets cleaner as the grid gets cleaner--and the grid is getting cleaner.

ICE vehicles are stuck with whatever efficiency they left the line with.

The other argument is that you can't put a CO2 scrubber on a car -- but you can on a coal fired plant...

There seems to be a lack of scrubbing on diesel powered vehicles. Like 80% of our transport backbone.

I'm puzzled as to how there are NOT scrubbers on all coal fired plants in the year 2015.

i'm surprised by the sentiment.

what i was thinking the response would be is: I, as a Tesla owner, chose a green EV and it makes a commitment to the environment. I am also concerned about how the electricity that powers my car is generated.

instead it's: point #1 but I don't really care how power is generated and I can, much like the "true cost to own per month Tesla math" find 1000 ways to deflect the fact that generation of electricity is anti-EPA.

I don't think that's fair. My experience on TMC is that Tesla owners show a near universal concern for how their power is generated; many have installed solar panels to offset the power their car draws.

I think you have to assume that as a baseline. People over there know that we should dump coal in the same way that people here know that manuals are better. You don't have to say it every time.
