* In a 928, you can't look down on Boxster and Cayman owners.

That's just a start but I'm sure you can come up with your own.

On the other hand, around here, people don't even stop to look at 911's Boxsters and Caymans anymore, but that odd, somewhat eggy looking and rare 928 is kind of cool

All of this, but I was thinking:

*911s are generally pretty robust, whereas 928s are made of paper mache and Faberge eggs.
*Lots of people like and understand the 911 Turbo, and the 80s 911s are in the middle of a hockey stick-like price rise that will last until our generation starts dying off. You (probably) won't lose money on a 911 Turbo. A 928? Eh. Let's just say that remains a niche vehicle.

Understand that I've never owned either, so I am going only by reputation. But my guess would be that you could make a rational case for buying a "blueprinted" 911 Turbo.

Buying a "blueprinted" 928, OTOH, is like buying a timebomb where the timer is flashing "12:00." Who the fuck knows what's going to happen, but it's probably not going to be good.

You have to take a different psychological position with cars such as these - you have to be willing to throw them away when they fail, or deteriorate, or whatever - it's a completely irrational and emotional endeavor.

In the meantime you have something rare, and ... "exotic", sort of. I've been seeing a couple of Lamborgini Countach's around town - these fit that description - one was at the local diner car show this summer - it's an awful beast, if you can manage to get into it, you can't see out of it and it's built like it's been strung together with spools of piano wire and thimbles - the "body", such as it is is so flimsy you expect the only thing left sitting in your driveway 20 years from now to be the engine.

I copy pasted entire text and the only picture. If you guys really care, I can provide the contact info (as long as my PCA stays valid - which is probably not too long as I'm all bmw's now)... This was more of a stickpoke. By the way, the poke emoticon doesn't work for some reason.

Porsche put a lot of work into this car - presumably to "correct' everything they must've felt was wrong with the 911. In addition to a double wishbone set up up front, it devised this sophisticated "Weissach" semi-trailing arm rear suspension.

The rear suspension of the second-gen RX-7 had a similar setup. Semi-trailing arms with a toe control bushing (vs a link) to toe-in on decel.

Most people felt like it just made the car handle strangely.
