Right. And how long will the pipeline for parts (and gas, for that matter) last? Probably for the remainder of my lifetime, but I’m lucky, frankly, not to be in young middle age anymore.

The 4K miles E39 M5 closed at $125k. It appears that it stalled out at the end. Friday afternoons are generally not good for closings. The last bid appears to be at 3:30 and no one else challenged it.

Surprising--seems like a bit of a bargain, though I guess there are probably also a very, very limited number of buyers for a car at this price.

Edit: This was a record E39 M5 BaT sale. BTW, I am surprised EAG did not bid on it with the intent to turn around and sell it for a $100k+ more after the “ rejuvenation process“ had been completed. |

Your observation could be correct.

I'm not sure this is correct. Before we started doing CBaTFL a couple months ago, I did not follow many auctions closely, but it seemed like pretty much all of them had a flurry of last minute activity. It's been surprising to see how many cars just don't generate any last minute bids, but they seem to have spread pretty evenly across Thursday and Friday (we only use cars that close on Thu/Fri).
Totally on board with the idea that Friday afternoon/evening may not be the best time to finish an auction, but it's hard to believe that day of the week would have much (any?) effect on an auction for a "special" car. A double digit oddball object or commodity on ebay? Yeah, fuck Friday. A six (or near six) figure car? Personal or business, if you want it, you will make time for it. Or, at least, that's what I will believe until seeing evidence to the contrary. (Or, quite possibly, I just don't know how the other half live.)

I am certain it all depends on what you were following? Most BMWs that close mid afternoon on Friday tend to be slow. Saturdays (Spring/Summer) and Monday’s can be slow as well. This is my observation over the past two years. BaT has become a hobby for me during Covid and I have won multiple vehicles, not all for myself and I have lost out (bidding wars) on far to many to count. Note, by no means am I claiming to be a BaT expert just expressing what I have witnessed.

It would be so much better if it was manual. |
