That is very cool. I'd be curious about when the engine was built and what car it came from; an '07 Boxster would have the later, more robust IMS, but if the engine came from a pre 2006 911 that might still be an issue.

Really shitty about the CARB outcome in that story. Seems pretty lame--but it also leads me to wonder whether the engine is from an earlier car, since I think that's verboten in CA (whereas engines from later cars can be OK).

That all depends on how well you take care of it and which leather BMW was using. My 03 M5 leather looked pretty dam good when I sold it for a 17yo car. Wear on the drivers bolster and seat bottom mostly. The passenger seat really only some creases in the seat bottom. The back seat almost perfect.

I have noticed some BMW leather wears better then others though. I had the sport leather where as the more expense heritage leather did not wear even close to as well.

Most of the E36 M3 leather was crap and wore horribly. Although the mulberry and latter tan seemed more durable.

The cinnamon leather in my E46 M3 also did not wear well.

I described it to Sue as "Leather installed backwards, with the inside of the cow on the outside of the upholstery".

Which sort of reminds me - one of the leather care product companies (possibly Leatherique) described leather as "what keeps the insides of a cow from falling out".

I do wish I had considered this back when I bought the S4, but Chevy didn't even market them so I had forgotten they even existed. Cool car though.

2015 is not the year to get.

They made some nice changes over the years. Meg ride and a better exhaust system were two of them.

EDIT: hmm I was wrong it does have meg ride. I was thinking that was a 2016 thing.

Yeah 2016 plus for sure!

Very cool Chevy E39 M5 though. =)

How do we feel about a 318iT converted to full M3 spec? In (checks notes) a suburb less than 10 miles from here?

Sweet! Gotta wonder about those ancient airbags, though. (A consideration for Nick’s ancient X5, too.)
