Yes, “Hey BMW” can adjust climate settings in ID7. I still much rather have a physical button or knob.

I think you have to set the wake up phrase and then you're good to go. I wish it would change drive modes, as they are very difficult to select via the iDrive-area buttons without looking.

It appears VW plans to follow BMW, whom in reality followed Hyundai. Reminder some of BMW’s designers were lured away to Hyundai/Kia.

I made my sign in instead of 'Hey BMW' it is 'Hey Dumbsh*t' , I did this as a joke and thought it was funny when I showed my wife, I have tried to change it back but cannot get it to change so I am now stuck with this as my sign in.

While I prefer the physical buttons, I do feel a bit better about the new layout after seeing some of the recent i4 reviews online. Looks like climate bar on bottom of screen stays there permanently regardless of what is on screen - shows temp selection +/- for both zones in permanent spot and a “climate” shortcut in middle that takes you directly to the menu to make other adjustments.

Maybe you’ll luck out and things will get a little better next year, but I doubt it’ll be much better, if at all. BMW and dealers are enjoying the healthy margins and I don’t see any of them hungry to go back to the old ways.

Not sure how closely you watch deals & programs but to make it real - leased my X5 in Nov 19:

Cap cost was ~14% below MSRP with healthy discount, loyalty, and OL code. Best deal I see today on leasehackr is 2-3% off and $1000 loyalty so call it ~4% off combined.

Also the residual now is 6pts lower than it was back then. Not that the resale has tanked, more that they think (know) they don’t have to put $$ into boosting the residual to an artificial number. (For what it’s worth - this is primarily on the X5/6/7. The 5er sedan by comparison still has a strong residual, but still doesn’t lease so well due to smaller discounts now vs. a few years ago)

That results in ~16% of MSRP in additional depreciation over lease term. Add to that higher MF now and it results in a brutal lease payment (~$500 more per month for same model today vs. then)

Another way of thinking about it - I could finance my residual for 36 months and own the car for basically same payment as a new 36 month lease on new replacement of my car. Sure I need to factor in repairs post warranty or cost of extended warranty but on other hand, my car will still be worth something at 6 year mark and would still come out well ahead.

Guess you can tell what way I went (pulled trigger a few months early and glad I did given where interest rates have been going)

Also assuming one might ask - why stick with BMW if deals are so bad? Well, they are equally bad if not even worse for most other comparable brands. Deals these days are very hard to come by. The running joke on leasehackr is that the only semi reasonable leases right now are on the Jeep Wrangler 4xe.
