Weird that it doesn’t have a rear camera. Wasn’t that law at a certain point? My F23 had a rear camera (better and brighter, frankly, than my G26) and front sensors. No front camera because of the M sport bumper.

G26 has all the 3D surround cameras. Super helpful.

Became mandatory the year after my car, in 2017. It was an option in 2016.

It was a ridiculous $500 option on my X5 for model year 2017. It became federally mandated as standard equipment in 2018, the last year of the F15 X5.

Yup. IIRC my MY2018 F80 was the first year that it was standard, though in my case I had the fancy-pants multi-camera park assist as part of some package so I would have had it anyway.

Very much value the real person feedback for both cars. And the Giulia Ti as a comparator is brilliant.

One notable thing is that neither of you have spoken about driveline lash. I remember back in the E36 days, there was that weird non-linear feeling of engaging the clutch and the car feeling squishy in stop and go traffic. It would be f*cking annoying.

This thread also seems to highlight the value proposition of the G80 M3. Pound for pound, with same performance, why not just get the M3 over the M2? It has more utility and honestly (to me) it looks less try-hard.

The M3 is $20,000 more?

I have to imagine the M2 is more fun and tossable. At least based on my experience with my M240 and my M440. And, yes, $$$.

At this point, though, I wouldn’t want to deal with just two doors again unless it’s a convertible.

What I’m surprised to hear is that while heavier, the penalty doesn’t appear to be huge. At darn near 4000 lbs that is only a couple of hundred pounds away and within 5% of an F90 M5.
