Congrats again to those of you who pulled the trigger and got your 4.0L mid-engine Porsches.
It seems impossible to get an allocation for these now and it is guaranteed that these cars will be the historical high mark for the Boxster/Cayman. I suspect they will appreciate like 993s. You lucky bastards!

Really? I would have thought that “a full extra year” (2024) would have eased the demand backlog.
I feel fortunate to have it even if I had to jump through hoops via a Hawaii dealer and paid a small ADM. The higher costs for MY2024 more than made up for that. |

Drove the 987 today.
This car is still like magic. It’s a little wobbly (springs) and maybe dampers are a little old. But it’s still so light. And the engine loves to rev. It feels like a poor man’s Miata (to me). Not a garage queen. >60,000 miles. Never worry about parking it anywhere. Just love to drive it. So —i can imagine that the GTS 4.0 models are the zenith —and take all of the weird quirks of the 3.4L DFI engines and ameliorates them. More power. More AUC. Newer direct injection. Better chassis. These cars are great.

Well, I ended up taking the car in for its first oil change after all. I forgot I had an appointment, so we ended up heading into Rockville that day to get some other stuff done down there. Plus, I still haven't pulled the trigger on buying a code reader/service indicator reset tool.

Lemming, trust me — if you’re planning to keep the 987, spring (ha ha) for a new set of dampers. The Ohlins coilovers I got for mine (now Zach’s) were a huge positive change; idk how much was the stock dampers being tired and how much was from the better shocks and springs, but it was a fantastic change.

Dumb question: an old chassis is up to the task of new dampers, right? I don’t to tighten up with cross bracing or something like that? I don’t mess with the 987 but I like to keep it as close to optimal as is possible.

Yeah it’s fine; it will always be more flexible than the new cars but there’s plenty of stiffness in the chassis for a new set of springs and struts.
