But, then again, I think about how much I wanted a Sierra RS Cosworth back in the day, and this is basically the spiritual successor to that... |

I'm sure it's a LOT more fun, but they directly traded comfort and niceness for fun. Your wife might actually fit in the seats, though. I really don't.

You and Matt need to start a bowling team. Equ and AF can Chauffer you there in new cars every month.

Ha, probably would have bought one today if they'd let my wife test drive. Oh well. Where's the roll eyes icon?

I remember when I test drove the M4 the dealer did allow me to drive a new one but I also looked around and found a used one to test drive just to get a better feel of the car. |

I mean, yeah. Probably could go back to the dealer I drove the used one at the other day. But this dealer was discounting new ones and had better colors, so we went there.
I really only have so many chances, since we have to bring the kids, work it into schedules, etc. It's a fucking waste of my time if I get everyone together, show up literally carrying a checkbook, and get denied. Pisses me off. My current car only has 30K miles on it. I don't really need a new one. VW is really, really aggressively trying to not sell me a car, and they are succeeding. |

Just test drove this 2017 GTI, SE spec.
https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/688499250/ Was a short 3-mile urban loop on a brand new car... I did not get a chance to "push around". What I can say is that as a daily driver very good. Very composed, almost bmw-like, certainly the best FWD car I've driven. Not fast but perfect for C. Fender audio and leather interior were a noticeably upgrade over our 2013 TDI base model. We still have a year to go before the diesel buyback clock runs out. We would have pulled the trigger today for the optimistic price they advertised on cars.com but they backed away summarily in person, with us there, offering their posted price. They wanted 6% financing and more than a thousand more. Another brief loop was in the Golf Alltrack. That felt meh, it was not a manual. That's the rational way. We have other sporty cars. The minimal AWD would be good around our hills. The back would fit our rapidly growing pup (from 25lbs@12wks to 39lbs@16wks!). |

How badly do you need the AWD and extra power of the R? The 220hp GTI also is 200lbs lighter with a spare tire. The diff gives me some comfort for snow and putting power down. A GTI can be had in the mid-to-high 20's, the R is nearly 40. I can't get over the price difference.
