I had to do it! I took the weekend to think about it. The current factory steering wheel is a God awful design. This should freshen things up once it arrives.

Wow! Great looking wheel.

<1000 miles is too few for me even. I think my 3-4k/year/car barely justifies two, but hey! Great decision...

While those wheels admittedly look dorky, there is something to be said for /40 sidewall. Then roads are better pretty much anywhere else compared to where I live. I just put on a used set of 19's with /40 profile on my 981 and the ride comfort increase is noticeable compared to the 20's with /35 that I'm used to. I will have to replace one bubbled tire and yes, I lost a bit on looks. I do prefer the driving dynamics.

And based on a 15mi test, I prefer even the goodyear f1 asymm 2 (now up to 3, but my set came with the 2) to the pirelli p zero. I loathe the p zero's; no confidence at all in cool conditions, I guess low road noise is their only saving grace. All tires tested are porsche N-spec (doubt it matters).

I should have mentioned that was a stock photo from Porsche.

We will see re the mileage. I have owned the Z3 for seven years now and the most mileage placed on it was the first year and this year. In between it was seeing less than 500 miles annually.

Any pics?

I am thinking of of going with my usual preference for the 19s, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Very clueless as to what tires most 997 owners prefer? Whatever I end up with will not be mounted and balanced until Spring ‘22.

Getting there… I almost have the interior dialed in to my cleanliness standards. A couple more coats of leather conditioner, one more thorough vacuuming and it should be to my liking. Truthfully it was not that bad to begin with. I have certainly detailed far worse preowned interiors.

Oh yeah the new wheel is going to be a big improvement. The triangle wheel is what I had in my car; I didn’t realize they used those on .2s, as well.

See JST's "I'm cursed" thread for a generic wheel pic. Again, 981/991 and 987/997 are 1" apart in diameter, so I'm talking in sidewall height for ride comparison.

I don't think you'll regret the mps4s, but I'm not at a point where I need all 4 new tires. The wheels came with a set of goodyears at 75-80%.

Unfortunately they did… no clue when they discontinued the use of it? My car was built late March 2009.

Edit: New plastic entry sills ordered as well as the stainless steel ‘Carrera’ sill plates to replace the current plastic ones.

I tried to keep the E39 out of it as much as possible, but I had little room to work with.

Yeah the 4Ss are great, excellent grip plus forgiving breakaway and they don’t get too greasy even when they heat up. Plus the wear is good, I’ve got 2 track days on mine and while they have a bit of wear on the outer edge it’s nothing really to complain about.

Of course, with that few miles per year you don’t really need to worry about wear; the tires will die of age long before they wear. You could probably go with something harder core, though if you’re just driving on the street there’s no real point to having more grip than the 4S can provide.
